I will let the site speak for itself:
is the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We’re working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America. And we always have fun doing it. Hoo-yah!
I realize this site is the epitome of right-winged media, but no matter your political views, Free Republic brings a lot to the table. The site itself is not exactly aesthetically pleasing. Here’s a shot of the homepage
Obviously the red white and blue color scheme was not a mistake. Those who flock to the site pride themselves of being extremely pro-American, and the articles found on the site reflect this ideology. Users post headlines and one or two sentences from the article in which it came (re: micro-blogging) with a link to the full article. Subscribers comment on headline posts, and the most fascinating ones are spiraled through an upward trajectory to be the top story. For example, a popular headline from today reads Obama says “Indonesia Is A Part Of Me” … In INDONESIAN, and the selected excerpt reads, “Obama made the statement in Indonesia’s native tongue during a speech at the University of Indonesia in Jakarta, Indonesia on Wednesday” with a link to the full article. Below that are some pretty inhibited responses.
Users can also paste an entire article if they feel it is worthy enough of a whole page. For example, An Inflationary Death Spiral, earned itself a full-page.
I like the site because no matter what anyone wants to believe, most media has a liberal bias, and many of the basic stories found on the site are nowhere to be found in mainstream media. Sometimes I feel like I don’t get to hear views from the other side unless I force my brother to DVR Glenn Beck or stay up to watch Fox’s “Red Eye” programming at 3 am. I digress….Well-round yourself and check out Free Republic!
P.S. If I could give the site one word of advice it would be to hire a graphic designer. The layout is a little blah, and thus, is difficult to navigate unless you spend some time fishing around.
