The iNewspaper

Soon there will be a newspaper that you can only access on iPad’s and other tablet devices. Rupert Murdoch, head of News Corp, and Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, are preparing to launch a new, digital newspaper, the Daily, at the end of the month.

The “newspaper” will cost 99 cents and will not have a print or web edition. It will be exclusive to tablet like devices.

The 99-cent model is something that I have said for a while is the way to fix the collapse of the newspaper. It worked with iTunes and it can work with this. Just look at The Beatles, they are number one on iTunes, while most of their larger fans have found some way of getting all their music on an iPod. I know I did.

That price sells. And it is easy to wind up with multiple $40 bills from the iTunes store. I know I have.

Now will this work? I think it has the potential of working but I’m not sure about now. The iPad is still new and I know I won’t be buying one until the next generation comes out.

If this newspaper without the paper can do what magazines like Wired has done then it might have a chance of succeeding. But otherwise why are people going to pay for something that they can get for free online?
